The Manhattanites is an extended modern erotic romance series of full length juicy melodramas multilayered on love, friendship, and drama to the hilt. If you grew up reading Jackie Collins, Judith Krantz and Danielle Steel you will devour this series as each book may be read as a stand alone. Sex & The City fans who watch TV shows like Girls (HBO), Mistresses (ABC/BBC Drama), and The Bold & the Beautiful (CBS) love The Manhattanites series. Avery’s characters are over the top. They have raunchy sex, speak their minds and always get what they want.

Content Warning: due to graphic sex scenes, strong language, suggestive themes, mature humor, and just about everything your friends ever told you not to do–including getting vajazzled, this novel is for adults only.

At thirty-three Warner Truman is one of the richest men on the planet, a spa mogul who buys and sells resorts at will. He holds powerful executive’s careers in his well-groomed hands. Nothing is beyond Warner’s reach…until he meets her.

Stunning, tantalizing, and perverse, Taddy Brill captivates Warner’s carnal desire like no woman he’s ever met. A self-made millionaire, Taddy is tougher than steel, more brilliant than diamonds and, at twenty-seven, she’s never depended on a man for anything…until she meets him.

The more Taddy plays with Warner’s affections, driving him to erotic heights, the more she is confronted by a dark past. But before she can love him, Taddy must meet her worst fears head-on or risk losing it all, including herself.

“Warner Truman Takes Taddy Brill Home”

(Part 1 of 2)

*the set up:

After meeting under false names at a private club in St. Barth, Taddy Brill “Red” invites herself back to Warner Truman’s mansion for a late night cocktail.

Chapter Seven

Vive Serves Up Bye-And-Bye Dick Pie

Warner couldn’t have dreamt Red up if he tried. He’d never seen her in his entire life, so she was unmistakably not an island local. Assuming she’d come to St. Barth for business as a swimsuit model for Sports Illustrated, he remembered the photographers shot their magazine spreads nearby. She must be. But her skin was porcelain, not tan as it would be if she’d been on the beach all day.

Indeed attractive, late twenties, she looked classy. Wrapped in a stunning dress, sexy shoes, and her vintage jewelry, she led him to assume if not magazine modeling a bikini, perhaps she’d jetted in from London. Red could’ve come to “winter” at a villa down the shore, escaping England’s cold season. But her voice spoke with a sharp tone, maybe from Chicago, certainly not British.

Her tuberose scent remained potent, in a good way, heady, fleshy and yet sweet. The perfume confused him all the more.

Red didn’t know Warner owned the club. She kept calling him Garner and he didn’t correct her. The music had deafened their introductions at first. When they sat down, the magic started. Warner caught her vulnerability and glimpsed Red’s taste for great adventure. He looked forward to discovering more about her.

“I don’t bring pretty ladies home—often.” If ever. He forced himself to settle down as they came up the winding driveway’s final stretch. His mind and body came together.

I gotta admit that when I was invited to join this blog tour, I was a little nervous because I did not particularly like the first book in this series but I wanted to give Avery Aster another try. OMG, I am so glad that I did!! I freakin’ L-O-V-E-D Unscrupulous!!! I found myself reading it every single free moment I got.

Unscrupulous is the story of Taddy and her friends Lex, Vive, and Blake as they live the high life in Manhattan.  Taddy is a successful, strong, beautiful woman but she is missing love in her life. She is convinced that she does not need love and that her friends are sufficient until a chance encounter with Garner (aka Warner) in St. Barths. Things get hot and steamy between them and Warner learns what it means when a woman to be vajazzled!!!

Warner has been searching all over the world for his “Red” as he felt there was a special connection with her. Taddy and Warner go about their lives until another chance meeting in Cannes.

“I haven’t seen you since December. It took me five months, but I got you, Red!”

No matter how hard Taddy tries to resist that she wants more than a purely physical relationship with Warner, he pushes harder for her to real with him and herself.

Yes, Unscrupulous is classified as an erotic novel but it is so much more than that. Yes, the sex when it happens is hot, heavy, visual, and quite frankly, it will turn you on but it is so much more than that. It is a love story. But, it just isn’t a romantic love story. It is a love story between friends and more importantly is a story of a woman learning to truly love herself!

Unscrupulous is full of one-liners. I mean laugh out loud one-liners that had me tweeting like crazy. Many of them were memorable but my favorites were:

-“Lord, he made her va-jay-jay trip into a gumdrop fit without any drugs.”

-“Sweet Jesus on a Saltine cracker, you’re a freaky deaky.”

And, my most favorite of the entire book is:

“I can’t help myself. It’s my drug, my crack…you.”

Kudos to Avery Aster for writing a book that kept me entertained in all ways from beginning to end. I will be not-so-patiently waiting for the next book (Unsaid) so Taddy and Lex can find out what I already know!!!
