Breaking All The Rules by Rhonda McKnight Review

breaking all the rules

Some rules are made to be broken…

Deniece Malcolm is shocked and heartbroken when she finds out her baby sister, Janette, is marrying Terrance Wright, because she was the one who was supposed to marry him! Everybody knows there’s a rule about dating exes. Janette is pregnant and not only is this wedding happening, but Deniece has to arrange the festivities.

Deniece’s feelings and pride are hurt, but surprisingly, Terrance’s younger, sexier, cousin, Ethan Wright, is there to provide a listening ear and a strong bicep to cry on. Ethan’s interested in Deniece, but she has a rule about dating younger men. Despite her resistance, things heat up between them and Deniece begins to wonder if it’s time to break a few rules of her own.

“My baby sister was and had always been oblivious to my feelings. It would never occur to her to ask, “Are you okay with me marrying the only guy you have ever loved?”

Huh? At 3% into the book, I had to take a long pause to think about that. I don’t have the best relationship with my sister but nothing in me would ever want to date and definitely not marry any man that she has ever dated. So, I knew I was about to take one heck of a roller coaster ride with Breaking All The Rules.

Somehow, Deniece decides to put aside the fact that her sister is marrying her ex and agrees to plan their wedding. McKnight goes on to tell this story with great humor in parts and delicacy in others when dealing with some pretty serious issues of the character’s past.

On a much deeper level, Breaking All The Rules made me think about my own rules as far as what I would truly forgive and on who I would allow into my life and my heart. McKnight is a talented storyteller and this book does not disappoint. I highly recommend it to anyone that appreciates a book written about adult characters that are flawed and would like to be entertained.

The Funeral – an Anthology by Brian W. Smith, J.D. Mason, Monique D. Mensah, Pamela Samuels Young, and Nakia R. Laushaul

the funeral

Five Best Selling authors have offered five different short stories centered on one theme…a funeral. Each story is filled with enough drama, suspense, and emotion to leave readers begging for more.

Let me start by saying, the synopsis does NOT do this book any type of justice. Absolutely none! But, outside of the lack of a synopsis to entice people to buy this book, I have no complaints. Every single author brought their A-game with their short story. Each story has the perfect combination of suspense, intrigue, mystery, and drama. This was a perfect anthology!!!

Alluring Seduction by Skye Turner Review

alluring seduction

Warning: This book contains explicit language and explosive sex. It is an adult romance and not intended for anyone under the age of 18.
Jessie Adams is the womanizing, lead guitarist for the hottest rock band in the country, Bayou Stix. Seduction is his game. He does what he wants, when he wants, and with whom he wants. Women are playthings, but eventually meaningless sex with groupie after groupie gets old.
Blue Delaney has spent years working nonstop and cultivating her way to being the hottest rock reporter in the business and the lead reporter for Rock Hard Magazine. She’s confident, sexy, and has no time for games.
Jessie loves women and women love him, but something about Blue gets under his skin. She’s not what he’s used to.
Blue loves Bayou Stix and is friends with the guys, but something about Jessie pushes her buttons. It doesn’t stop her from wanting him.
When Blue is forced to go on tour with Bayou Stix and cover the band, tensions run high, chemistry is explosive, and Blue and Jessie begin to see each other in a new light.
Their attraction is obvious to everyone but them. But in the end… the question is who’s seducing whom and is chemistry enough to sustain a relationship?
Can this fierce woman tame this bad boy rocker? Does she want to?

I will admit that before reading Alluring Turmoil (the first book in this series), I was not really into the whole “rocker” thing. Alluring Turmoil and Alluring Seduction has changed my entire mindset on these type of books. Now, into why I loved, loved, loved Alluring Seduction.

“Maybe you should stop picking up fake Barbie bitches who fuck everything they can, before you catch something and your dick falls off!”

This was only 4% into the book and I knew Blue and I were kindred spirits. She has absolutely no shame in telling Jessie how she feels and what she thinks about him. Jessie is known to be a man-whore and to think with his little “head” instead of his big one. And, with art imitating real life, Jessie like most real folks is using no strings attached sex as a way to mask something deeper.

“He’s not used to this and he’s never been in a situation like this, so he’s going to fuck up. The only question is, are you going to let him go or are you going to fight to keep him?”

Everything about this book was perfect! The timing, the plot development, the sexual tension, the various relationships within the circle of friends, and the actual sexual scenes were H-O-T!!!!  The Bayou Stix series makes me want to read all of the well-known “rocker” books that I always hear people gushing over to see if they live up to Alluring Turmoil and Alluring Seduction. Skye Turner is a natural talent and I can’t wait for everyone else to know her name!

Ohhhhh, and one last thing, I am VERY IMPATIENTLY waiting for Cruz (another member of the band) to have his time in the spotlight.
