Prostitute Flange by Kenneth D. Hawkins

Prostitute Flange by Kenneth D. Hawkins

Rating: 3

Heading: Does Love Conquer All?

Does love truly conquer all, even a partner with a very promiscuous lifestyle? Author Kenneth D. Hawkins attempts to capture the reader’s attention in his novel, Prostitute Flange.

Jasmine Prejean is a prostitute at the Tchopitoulas Mumbo Room, which is New Orleans most exclusive brothel. This seemed as an unlikely career decision for Jasmine since she was the valedictorian of Holy Rosary Christian Academy High School. She is a nymphet that would prefer this lifestyle instead of attending either Xavier or Tulane University.

Harper Williams was once part of a notorious young gang, but has turned his life around and is now one of Forbes Top 100 Entrepreneurs. He meets Jasmine at the Mumbo Room but does not partake in any activities. Harper would like to show Jasmine the finer things in life and build a relationship with her that is not based on sex. His only requirements are that she remains loyal, truthful, and never keeps any secrets from him. As long as Jasmine would like to oblige, she will not quit her job.

This book was a quick read but it left too many unanswered questions. It was an undeveloped story and the ending was rushed. It appeared as if an editor did not review this book before publishing as there were many grammatical, spelling, and spacing errors.

Tour Secrets by Winkk

Tour Secrets by Winkk

Rating: 5

The author Winkk began this book, Tour Secrets, by revealing secrets that had me completely hooked by page four.  Raven and Music, childhood best friends, are introduced as loving nothing more than dancing. It is their dream and their passion to become professional dancers for a major recording star. But, one of them has a secret that could tear their friendship completely apart.

Music and Raven get their chance to become professional dancers but soon growing egos and jealousy begin to take their toll on the two friends. Personally and professionally, they decide to go their separate ways. Life on the road is not what it seems to be and while Tour Secrets may be a work of fiction, it felt as if I could have been reading someone’s reality.

Tour Secrets kept my undivided attention from beginning to end. The book ended with a few cliffhangers, and it has me eagerly waiting to read the sequel. Tour Secrets is a phenomenal debut by  Winkk and I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in receiving a behind-the-scenes look at the entertainment business.

Thou Shalt Not Want by Gloria Bush Smith

Thou Shalt Not Want by Gloria Bush Smith

Rating: 4

Heading: Is it Worth It?

Thou Shalt Not Want, the debut novel by Gloria Bush Smith, details how far a woman could possibly go to have a child since she cannot conceive. Monica Gordon is a married woman, who goes to church regularly even though her husband Reese does not. The two of them have been married for six years and after several attempts to conceive a child, Monica is informed that she is unable to carry to term. One day, a young woman named Bryn, who resembles Tyra Banks, walks into Monica’s church. The two quickly become work associates and then friends.

Over coffee Monica shares with Bryn that she is unable to have children and immediately Bryn offers to be a surrogate for Monica and her husband. Without thinking through the entire situation, Monica and her husband agree but they never sign legal paperwork. Before you know it, matters change quickly and a series of twists and turns occur. Throughout the course of the book, Monica prays to God for many things. God answered every single one of her prayers leaving her to wonder what have I gotten myself into.

Thou Shalt Not Want was an entertaining book. The only disappointment was the unanswered questions at the end. I do hope there will be a sequel so the reader can have some closure.
