Tawatha Gipson feels it’s high time she found a husband. So do her four children by four different men. Each time Tawatha thought she’d snagged a ring and a man, something goes wrong. When she spots James Dixon at the jobsite, she’s determined to have him by any means necessary.

MY REVIEW

Dream Girl Awakened is Stacy Campbell’s debut novel and it does not disappoint. Aruba is married to James but she wants her best friend Victoria’s husband, Winston. Aruba and Victoria have two very different lifestyles as Aruba’s husband James is about to quit his 5th job in 7 months while Victoria’s husband is hugely successful. And, not only is James a habitual job jumper, he has a ‘friend’ on the side named Tawatha.

Victoria is mainly focused on spending on husband’s money and not on nurturing her marriage with Winston. She makes the grave mistake of sharing all of the details of her marriage to Aruba and because of this Aruba sees an opening to become more than just friends with Winston. I found myself shaking my head at Victoria and did not sympathize with her as the story played out because most women know not to discuss how great sex is and/or the fact that sex is not happening in their relationship.

“I don’t care how bad things get in your marriages when you grow up. If your life isn’t in danger, and if you and your husband can make it to someone prayerful and tactful, only go to that individual. People begrudge you the smallest things. Before you know it, a little secret shared can be hurled back in your face and cause your relationship a world of hurt.”

Victoria is the definition of a high maintenance woman and she gets what she deserves. And, Aruba will learn the hard way if the grass is truly greener on the other side. Dream Girl Awakened by Stacy Campbell is an excellent debut and I look forward to reading more from this author!
