The Art of Being is a collection of inspirational words and motivational messages designed to empower, inspire, and encourage. Whether you’re looking for a pick-me-up, a life coach, or a personal cheerleader, this nonfiction journey of life lessons, quotable messages, and poetry will hit the spot. While the premise is centered on the idea of being your best self in order to live your best life, the real power comes from what each point encourages you to reflect on in your life. Inspirational, motivational, and spiritual, The Art of Being is the perfect gift to yourself.

Fall in love with The Art of Being by falling in love with the art of being YOU.

“I am a work in progress, but please believe the hype.”

The Art of Being is part self-help, part inspirational, and part devotional. If you add all of the parts of the book together then you realize that it has taken you on a journey to find your true and authentic self. The Art of Being isn’t your typical over the top self-help from a guru that makes you feel as if you’re being preached to and/or made to believe that everything will turn around as soon as you finish the book.

“There’s freedom in realizing that you don’t have to experience life the way you’ve been told to experience it. My journey is mine. Your journey is yours.”

This is the true beauty of The Art of Being. It is all about self; Self-discovery, self-acceptance, and most of all, self-love. It forces you to look deep in the mirror and analyze who you are, what you think about you, and then what you allow.

Some books come along right when you need them the most and The Art of Being is one of them. It is one that can be visited many times on your journey of becoming the you that you want to be. Your answers to some of the questions posed will change over time and this will document your growth. Danielle Allen is a prolific fiction writer so this was a risk. One can easily tell that she put her heart and soul into it and as a result she has produced a book that I truly believe every woman should read.

The Voice by Jennifer Anne Davis

the voice

Book Synopsis

During her abduction and assault, Audrey begins to hear a voice. She hopes she’s not going crazy, because after what she’s experienced, that’s the most logical explanation. However, as she begins to listen to the voice, Audrey realizes that someone may be telepathically trying to help her.

Unfortunately, rescue isn’t all she needs. In order to leave behind the constant reminders, she flees to her Aunt Kate’s house in San Diego, and assumes a new identity. It works—until the eighteen-year-old twin boys who live next door threaten to break through the protective walls she’s worked so hard to build.

Between Caleb going out of his way to befriend her and Justin avoiding her at all costs, Audrey doesn’t know if normalcy will ever find her again. But one thing is certain: When a familiar danger resurfaces, it’s the same voice that she turns to—a voice that is not only real, but a lot closer than she realizes.

Gripping and tastefully told, The Voice is a story of healing, trust, and courage.

My Review

The Voice by Jennifer Anne Davis is like reading what it may have been like for Elizabeth Smart and/or other kidnapped children. It was quite hard for me to keep my emotions in check as they ranged from helplessness, nervousness, fear, anger, outrage, and happiness. From the very beginning, we are engulfed into Audrey’s kidnapped mindset,

“Lying in the dark cabin, I tried not to think about the foul smell of body odor mixed with the stench of urine. I tried not to think about how hungry I was, or when I would eat again. About the plastic zip ties cutting into my wrists, or the spider crawling up my arm. I kept trying and failing. There was nothing to do but think.”

Audrey was a young girl that was kidnapped by someone, when revealed, will make you want to vomit a little. While kidnapped Audrey hears a voice that wills her to keep hanging on and helps her to escape when the opportunity arises. Audrey’s story of captivity garnered much press and she simply wants to escape so she goes to live with her aunt in California.

Audrey gets a new look, a new school, and attempts to start a new life but she does have issues allowing others in. She thinks that most of her insecurities and dangers are left on the other side of the country until someone begins to stalk her and it is in this time that “the voice” makes another appearance. Davis’ writing was so captivating that this was one of the rare times when reading that I could feel the main character’s pain as well as her trials and tribulations even though I have never been in her situation.

The subject matter in The Voice is gritty. There is no way to sensationalize and ‘dress up’ kidnapping and sexual child abuse. Audrey’s path to healing was one that truly touched my heart. I applaud Jennifer Anne Davis for tackling such sensitive subject matter and writing a book that I did not want to put down until I reached the very last page.

My Review

Man-cation: A Voyage Back to You by Deaquelynn Williams is an excellent self-help guide to start you on your journey to become your best self. It is biblically based and geared towards single women, but as a married woman I can honestly say that the majority of the book is beneficial to all women regardless of relationship status.

Williams writes the book as if you are a travel agent navigating a journey back to you. One standout section of Man-cation is a chart that the author created to help you figure out your goals. The second standout is a five step process she outlines to transform your life. Man-cation: A Voyage Back to You is short in length but is very content rich. 4 star rating

1. What message do you hope to convey through Man-cation: A Voyage Back To You?

Through Man-cation: A Voyage Back to You I hope to convey to women that it’s perfectly okay to go through a season of singleness so they can get themselves together both inside and out before they are able to receive the real, right man in their lives. It’s also a guide teaching every woman, married or single, how to get back to the core of who she is so she can have a healthy and happy life.

2. Set the mood for us…when you’re writing, you have to…

When I’m writing I open my heart and ears to hear what God wants to speak to the readers. I become so vulnerable when I write that I often have to take writing breaks because I get really involved emotionally as I think about what the reader may be going through and how the information that I share could possibly impact and change their lives for good.

3. What is your main reason for writing: to educate, inspire, entertain, or all three?

I write to educate and inspire, if it entertains that’s always great too! My main reason for writing is to share practical empowerment tips through Biblical principles as well as my life’s story so the reader will know how to overcome anything they may be facing yet not feel they are the only ones going through tough moments in life. My goal is to show them that if I was able to overcome, so can they.

4. What has been the most surprising and upsetting part about your literary journey?

The most surprising part about my literary journey is the fact that my first ebook turned into an online class which ultimately became my now online institute for women. I’m always in awe of how that one ebook was the catalyst of a movement in my life to empower women all over the world.

The most upsetting part of my literary journey is know that I’m not reaching enough people. It saddens me to see so many young girls embrace the “ratchet” mindset and I often feel, if I can just get them to read my book (or any other self-help book for that matter) and apply what they read, then their lives would transform.

5. When you’re not writing, what authors do you enjoy reading? What are you currently reading?

When I’m not writing I love reading tons of self-help books. The few that I have in constant rotation are: Psycho-Cybernetics by Dr. Maxwell Maltz, Commanding Your Morning by Dr. Cindy Trimm, The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale, and The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. These are what I consider timeless self-help books.

I’m currently reading Pink Lips & Empty Hearts by Heather Lindsey.

6. If you had to write your life story, what would the title be? How does that title portray your story?

If I had to write my life story the title would be, “BUT GOD,” That title portrays my story because I’ve been through a lot in my life from being sexually abused as a little girl, not having my daddy in my life, being verbally abused by a family member, plus dealing with disease, death and divorce… BUT GOD was there with me and He brought me out so that now I can help others who may be going through adverse life circumstances.

7. What is a normal day like for you?

Ha! Since becoming an instant parent to three children over a year ago, I don’t have normal days anymore. But a day for me includes caring for my disabled niece, reading, studying, writing and creating curriculum, running my online institute as both the CEO and the teacher/facilitator, coaching, and running a household. I’ve been able to to schedule my day to accommodate my daily tasks so although it seems like a lot, it’s very easy to do it all.

8. What are three things readers might be surprised to learn about you?

The three things readers might be surprised to learn about me is 1) I am a super-duper, hype football fan! Roll TIde & Go Falcons! 2) I do coaching classes and one-on-one sessions for women at local homeless shelters. 3) I’m a foodie. I love, love, love food! I love to cook it, but more than anything I love to eat it!

9. What can your fans look forward to next?

I’m working on creating a 14-Day Man-cation intensive derived from the book where people can take classes and become more empowered through the book. In addition to that, my focus is solely on teaching classes in my online institute while penning my next book.

10. Thank you again for allowing me to interview you on Tiffany Talks Books. Any last words for those who are reading this interview?

Thank you for the honor to be interviewed by YOU! The last words I have for those reading this would be to make sure you always be true to who you are. Never try to be anyone other than yourself. Working on creating your best life and before you know it you will have it. Keep going and keep growing! Your best awaits you!
