About The Book

Bitterness and deception always manage to find their way to the surface. Be Still & Know is a novel about finding love after devastating heartbreak and the challenges of learning to trust again.

Kai Bennett never believed that she was worthy of love. Too many years of being mistreated left her bitter and uncertain of her own self-worth. Finding validation in men, money, and trinkets, she has little use for a man becoming a permanent fixture in her life. That was until she met Alvin. What starts as a game of cat and mouse quickly develops into something Kai is unsure she is ready to handle.

Alvin Reigns discovered long ago that in love, there were no happy endings. He had fallen in love once, and vowed to never again allow any woman that much control over his heart. Kai Bennett was an unexpected surprise who made him want to believe in the possibility of a happy ending. After many years of self-preservation, Alvin is unsure if he should trust Kai with his heart.  How will Alvin and Kai learn to trust and create their own happy ending?

Author Interview

1.   When did you fall in love with books?

I’m not sure of the exact moment that I fell in love with books; I’ve loved them as far back as I can remember. My earliest memory associated with my love affair with books is when I was about three and I would “read” picture books aloud to the older children while they were washing up or eating dinner to entertain them.

2.   When did you realize you wanted to write?

I’ve always had an active imagination, but I think I came to the realization that I wanted to write when I began to rewrite the ends of the books I would read. At the same time, I was looking for a genre that just wasn’t out there so I began to write what I wanted to read.

3.   Tell us about yourself.

I’m a pretty open book, so to speak. I’m married with three grown children. My husband is a retired Air Force Master Sergeant, so we’ve moved around quite a bit. It’s given me a lot of time to write and some stories to tell. More than anything, I’m a woman who loves the Lord and loves to talk, sing, and write about Him.

4.   Who are your favorite authors?

My bookshelf is kind of eclectic. I love Francis Ray, Brenda Jackson, Jodi Picoult, Neta Jackson, Toni Morrison, Zora Neale Hurston. I also enjoy James Patterson, Walter Mosley, Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins.

5.   What are your favorite books?

Wow, there are a few. I can’t get enough of “There Eyes were watching God” by Zora Neale Hurston. Also on the short list are “A Lesson Before Dying” by Earnest Gains, “The Yada Yada Prayer Group” series by Neta Jackson, and “Heart of the Falcon” by Francis Ray.

6.   What would you like for readers to get out of your book?

I would like readers to be entertained and thoroughly enjoy what they’ve just read, but more than that, I want readers to get the message of hope that I try to end each novel with.

7.   What makes you unique as an author and what sets your book apart from other books in the same genre?

I love a good love story and I don’t think that has to be diminished because I write from a Christian point of view. My characters are human, if you will. They make mistakes but like me, they are saved by grace.

8.   What is your writing process?

My process is a little different. I typically have a book written in my head prior to writing anything on paper. I usually start with the characters I’m writing about and develop the story around them; I find it easier to tell their story if I know who they are.

9.   Are you currently working on anything new? If so, please give a brief synopsis and when should we expect it?

I’m currently working on the follow up to Be Still & Know. Hidden is the next book in the Reigns Family Series is called Hidden. This book asks, what would you do if the love you thought you lost came back?

Marvin Reigns has loved only one woman in his life, and for him, no one could ever hold a candle to Lyvia. Just as Marvin is ready to move on with his life, the love of his life returns with incredible tales of being hidden from people who wanted to assassinate her.

10.     How can readers connect with you?

They can follow me on Facebook and Twitter. Readers can also check out my website and sign up for email updates.

My Review

Be Still & Know by Cassietta Johnson is definitely a book that will uplift your spirits. Kai is a woman that has had a rough life with a very unfortunate past that has led to a less than ideal present. She meets and falls for Alvin but is nervous that her past and current rumors will destroy their relationship. Jefferson uses realistic characters with flaws in realistic situations that may remind you of people in your life or even of yourself and that is a great accomplishment. Be Still & Know proves that with faith, love, and prayer that we can overcome any situation and mindset.
